When he isn’t drumming for the prolific Australian psych-rockers The Murlocs, Matt Blach takes on frontman duties for the equally psych-y Beans. With two records to their name already, the band is returning this year with their first new material since 2020 with two new LPs planned for 2024, the first of which is set to arrive in under a month. Before Boots N Cats is revealed in full, though, we’re getting another taste of the project with the grooving ballad of mixed-up intentions, “Dreaming Daisy.”
“‘Dreaming Daisy’ is a song for the devil on ya shoulder,” the band explains of the track, which feels right at home with the American psych-rock revival of the past decade or so launched by The Black Angels, Night Beats, and other prodigy of Roky Erickson. “It’s basically about being an airhead/alcoholism, and the way addiction can work, speaking on differential sides. It’s about people wanting to live their life to prove right to others or their parents rather than themselves.”
The track comes paired with a black-and-white music video in which Blach co-stars as a devious mime. Check that out below, and pre-order Boots N Cats before it lands March 15 via Fuzz Club here.
