In addition to playing in the grungy East Coast rock groups Bethlehem Steel and Kal Marks, Christina Puerto has been writing music under the moniker Mulva in recent years as a cathartic lyrical outlet in addition to matching the riff-heavy instrumentals of the other bands she plays in. The group—which currently also consists of Kal Marks vocalist Carl Shane and Bethlehem Steel’s Patrick Ronayne, along with Adam Berkowitz—is gearing up to release their latest collection of songs Bitter Form at the end of the week, and between Puerto’s emotive vocals and the prominently brooding bassline stringing the album’s tracks together, fans of both bands should be happy with the release.

Before then, Mulva is sharing one last single in the form of the simmering five-minute “Pray for Brains,” which Puerto describes as the end product of her “brain [turning] to scrambled egg” after weeks of stewing on certain thoughts. “I don’t remember the exact feeling I was struggling with when writing ‘Pray for Brains,’ but what continues to come through is a flailing about between deep sorrow and immense love,” she shares. “It’s an affirmation that these feelings can exist simultaneously and even depend on each other for strength. Now, singing the song has become a reminder to myself that even through hopeless, chaotic moments, there’s some living to be done and some joy to be found every day.”

You can find moments of both chaos and joy in the track below, and you can pre-order the record via Sad Cactus here before it drops this Friday, March 1.
