Whereas Indian composer Arushi Jain’s previous record, 2021’s Under the Lilac Sky, mulled over the concept of time through spacious compositions weaving through the realms of ambient, new age, and drone, her forthcoming project Delight is an album with emotional expression at its core instead. In being so, naturally, its predecessor’s abstract brushstrokes are exchanged for a more emotive musical palette—as lead single “Imagine an Orchestra” suggested, that includes electronic pulses which are intended to “channel, celebrate, iterate upon, and interrogate traditional Indian classical idioms,” per the single’s press release.
Today we’re getting the record’s second single before it arrives in full at the end of next month, with “You Are Irresistible” also serving as Delight’s closing track. The song begins with ethereal vocals before slowly opening up to incorporate a house beat as it progresses over six and a half minutes. “It’s a matter of perspective; some individuals can more easily perceive beauty than others,” Jain shares, speaking to the track’s meaning. “Beauty is irresistible, beauty beckons delight. So how can we cultivate the ability to effortlessly recognize it? Is having the belief that beauty exists, enough, for delight to become self-fulfilling and permanently permeate our inner dialogues? When discovered, these vignettes are easily shared; I believe an alluring and standout quality of delight lies in its contagiousness.”
Delight arrives March 29 via Leaving Records. Get a taste for it with “You Are Irresistible” below, and pre-order the record here.
