For nearly a decade, Valerie Caputo has built a reputation for herself under the DV-i moniker as a multimedia artist specializing in the sounds and imagery of the digital-age, helping to define the breakbeat hardcore revival with video game soundtracks and other recordings leaning into the sounds of various movements in techno and drum and bass. Having collaborated with artists ranging from A. G. Cook to Anamanaguchi, today she’s announcing a new six-song EP titled Re:Connect which builds upon her prior output while serving as her first full release with Music Website, the label co-founded by Vitesse X in 2022.

Along with the single “Angel Panic” released last summer, the EP will include “Net Wild ’09,” a cyberpunk track that we’re previewing today alongside its intense visual. Merging the influences of established figures within techno and trance music with a revisionist future of what many of the producers who inspired her once foresaw the modern musical and political landscapes to look like, the relentless three-minute cut further opens a portal to what the remainder of Re:Connect will have in store.

“For ‘Net Wild ’09’ I was primarily inspired by the melodic, political techno-optimism of Underground Resistance, the synthetic coldness of Mijk Van Dijk, and the propulsiveness of Riow Arai and Ken Ishii,” DV-i shares. “I tried to couple this sound with an interest in speculative, alternative energy infrastructure to bring this sound into the 21st century. My human voice is a much larger presence on this, and the rest of the EP, serving as both narrator and digital assistant.”
