Sibling duo Angus & Julia Stone have shared another new single, “Losing You,” ahead of their upcoming album Cape Forestier, which will arrive on May 10. I’m not so sure about sibling duos, considering my brother and I were promptly silenced whenever we embarked on a duet, but that may also be because we have two of the worst singing voices ever conceived by man or beast. The Stone siblings’ new track, on the other hand, is a shimmering indie-pop tune, and it hath been declared that this duo is allowed to sing whenever they want. Harmonies abound beneath pulsing guitar chords and subtle percussion. The result is restrained catharsis that the duo expertly unfurl with teasing patience.
“Playing this track together is incredibly enjoyable, mostly because we sing in harmony throughout the entire song,” the duo shares. “We’ve done a lot of singing in unison on the last couple of records, but singing in harmony is a special experience; there’s something about the familial tone of our voices blending together a third apart that has a real magic for us. The feel of the song also reminds us of the songs our parents played us…of long road trips up the east coast of Australia, where we'd sing in the back of the car to mum and dad’s favorite tunes from the ’60s and ’70s.”
Regarding the accompanying video, they also note that it was inspired by “the fluidity of the dance between love and loss. We wanted to evoke the sensation of being consumed by shadows and darkness, only to emerge into the light, ultimately rediscovering ourselves once again.” Check out that visual below, and pre-order Cape Forestier here.
