While LA, New York, and Philadelphia seem to be the primary US hubs for the ongoing shoegaze revival, there’s certainly also a case to be made for Chicago—the city that’s given the world such cool-uncle shoegaze acts as Airiel and astrobrite. It’s this type of no-frills approach to feedback-overwhelming rock music with eerie ambient interludes that siblings Reid and Kira Isbell bring to the table with their project Twin Coast, and their new EP noie! noie! noie! is certainly no exception.

Across five tracks, the release harnesses the most abrasive and melodious charms of Psychocandy while worshiping at the altars of its underground adherents (the relentlessness of A Place to Bury Strangers comes to mind). Entirely written, recorded, mixed, and mastered by the duo (like “shoegaze,” I feel like “DIY” gets thrown around a lot these days—rest assured this is the real deal), noie! noie! noie! is just a taste of what’s surely to come from the Chicago scene staples as they gain traction among the underground youth culture they’re actively helping to shape through their Static Revival festival and beyond.

With the EP officially dropping tomorrow, the band is sharing an early stream of the full project with us. Described by the Isbell’s as “an endless horizon” and “a movement,” check it out below.
