Today marks the two-year anniversary of Vicky Farewell’s debut album, Sweet Company—a record that, true to its name, introduced the LA-based artist as an architect of alt-R&B slow jams and sensual synth-funk all adorned with her honeyed vocals. Showing no signs of slowing down, Farewell’s follow-up record, Give a Damn, is already scheduled to arrive a month from now, with its latest single “Push It” ranking among her most sugar-coated work. A minimal hypnagogic instrumental lays the groundwork for Farewell’s cooing vocals as she reminisces on old relationships.

“I was going for my own twisted version of the Jeopardy! theme song on this one,” she shares of the simple yet effective melody on the track. As for the lyrics she continues: “I wanted to express my frustration about becoming stagnant. Sometimes, we are faced with the heartbreaking reality that you simply can’t take everyone along with you. I always think about the Paul Simon song, ‘Still Crazy After All These Years.’ Depending on which perspective you look at this particular song, ‘Push It,’ is my adaptation of it.”

Along with the track, Farewell is sharing a music video animating the West Coast vibes on the album cover as waves crash upon the various rocky structures the artist lounges upon. Check that out below, and expect Give a Damn to arrive May 10 via Mac’s Record Label. Pre-save it here.
