Similar to how alt-country is the new indie-folk, a recent trend in performance spaces suggests that neighborhood grocery stores may be the new slightly misnomered nonprofit media org’s workspace furniture. Earlier this year, we got a Scorsese-feature-length live video of FLOOD faves Frost Children, Truth Club, and Knifeplay, among other artists, performing at Austin’s Friendly Rio Market—an establishment with a history of mosh-friendly gigs. And now further footage from that space arrives today in the form of the official video for villagerrr’s single “Tear Your Heart Out” from the group’s newly released debut full-length of the same name.

While there isn’t a whole lot of moshing going on in the Dylan Owens–directed Super-8 clip, instead fans (and patrons, presumably) look on with reverent ease as the Columbus-based group slow-jams the cut under fluorescent lighting, occasionally captured in the establishment’s security cam monitors. “Super 8 has an instantly nostalgic feel that fit the moment—a promising young band in the rush of its first SXSW—and the song well,” shares Owens. “Was an honor to burn that memory to film.”

“Visit your friendly Rio Market in Austin and tell ’em the village band sent ya,” adds the village band.
