Two of my favorite Sams (also shoutout my brother), Sam Gendel and Sam Wilkes, have announced their third duo album, The Doober. It follows two uniquely brilliant projects, 2018’s Music for Saxofone & Bass Guitar and 2021’s More Songs.
On this project, Gendel is handling the C-melody “saxofone” and Wilkes is on the Fender P-Bass. First track “Sweet Fire” is a Rahsaan Roland Kirk original, featuring mind-warping melodic runs from Gendel, jangly percussion, and a bass line so phat I’m not sure my face will ever go back to normal from its now-resting bass face.
