Miki Berenyi, the celebrated frontperson of Lush, and her current trio (which includes Kevin “Moose” McKillop on guitar and Oliver Cherer on bass) have shared a new single entitled “Vertigo.” Released by Bella Union, the track is their first official single and arrives ahead of their North American headlining tour with support from Lol Tolhurst x Budgie.
On the track, the trio’s pulsing electronics, rumbling bass, and atmospheric guitar notes back up Berenyi’s iconic falsetto as she sings: “In the dark I lie awake / Reach for hope and dreams / My head is dread / My heart is doubt / Chase away / My need for sleep.” From there, the track expands into a shoegaze epic highlighted by sixteenth note hi hat flourishes and twinkling electronics.
