Today we’re closing out our “Neighborhoods” subseries spotlighting some of the countless groundbreaking acts that filled out NYC’s recent New Colossus festival, a yearly event hosting upward of 100 emerging international artists in rock music and beyond as they play shows across various independent venues in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The final installment sees Gui Machado Correia of Lisbon-based indie rockers Hause Plants set up in Freeman Alley—a full-circle moment after the series began there last month.

The evening set sees Gui performing two solo cuts—“Stranger Anywhere” from the band’s 2022 EP Sleeping with Weird People and “Marcy Avenue” from last summer’s follow-up EP Field Trip to Coney Island—with distant backing vocals from his band on the latter number.
