After garnering national attention outside of their local Phoenix scene as an opening act for Irish hip-hop troublemakers Kneecap, Beleganas are announcing today that their star will continue to rise with a signing to Different Recordings, the innovative rap- and electronic-focused subsidiary of [PIAS] that’s previously brought us hits from Greentea Peng, Anna of the North, Underworld, and more. Which is appropriate, considering the trio is both forward-looking and unable to be pigeonholed in the same way many of the label’s signees tend to be. Case in point, Beleganas’ new single “Let It Burn” drifts between hip-hop and punk, resulting in what Paris Texas might sound like on a steady diet of Anthony Kiedis’ vocal delivery.

“‘Let It Burn’ is a bit of a slacker opus for us, especially with the creative process having been basically all collectively shutting our brains off in the same room and seeing what happens,” the group shares. “Producer Jason Hahs initially pushed us creatively to make a sort of punk rock oeuvre, but it wasn’t until Nick Wille put his live drums down on the demo that the track really started to take shape. From there, we really dug our heels in, with the help of up-and-coming producer Austin Parker Jones, to enhance the grittiness we knew was lying under the surface.”

The result is precisely the type of genius that unfurls once the overthinking stops. Check it out below.
