Snoozer has been together for nearly two decades at this point, yet the duo of brothers Mike and Tom Kelly has spent most of that time playing house shows around their native Philadelphia in addition to other distractions from recording—namely Tom’s stint behind the drums for Alex G over the past eight years and Mike’s committing of solo recordings to tape. Yet two years removed from their long-awaited debut album (aptly titled zzz, considering their moniker) the pair is already back with news of their sophomore LP, Mid-Earth, landing just shy of their debut’s two-year anniversary. Their first release through Born Losers Records will arrive September 13.
In the meantime the band is sharing the record’s first single, “Love’s Permission,” which dips its toes in their native Philly’s slacker-rock and punky shoegaze pools while toting some not un-Giannascoli-esque whimsy. “‘Love’s Permission’ kicked off this whole record,” Mike Kelly shares of the track. “I wrote the riff in about 20 minutes and later on had to jump out of a shower I was taking to finish the lyrics because they were racing through my mind. I remember showing the demo to Tom that same night and both of us getting so excited. It felt like a huge step forward and we pretty much made the rest of the record around this song.”
