Cigarettes After Sex, the project led by Greg Gonzalez, has returned with a new single entitled “Baby Blue Movie.” The song is set to be featured on the band’s new album X’s, out on July 12 via Partisan Records. On the track, soft drums cohere with a woozy guitar line and melodic bass part to create an atmospheric ambiance at once inviting and mysterious.
“A ‘blue movie’ is a term for a porn movie and so ‘baby blue movie’ is a reference to softcore porn,” Gonzalez commented of the track. “I heard the title years ago and it felt really striking to me. The story of the song is intentionally meant to be more cryptic storytelling-wise than the lyrics I usually write. I like the idea of leaving the listener to decide what this one could be about…”
