With Tennessee-based songwriter Maddie Kerr gearing up to begin a month of shows tomorrow with their band mercury on the strength of last year’s singles “Trying” and “Woolgathering,” we’re getting not one but three new tracks from the artist today. Collected together under the appropriate title Together We Are One, You and I, the three tunes range from raging grungegaze to soft indie rock, reflecting the contribution of the tracks’ producer Alex Farrar—recently known for his work on the backwoods-shoegaze epic that is Wednesday’s Rat Saw God and the dreamy indie-folk stylings of Snail Mail’s Valentine.

“I got to work with so many incredible and inspiring people who really elevated what I had to say,” Kerr shares of the recording process. “These songs document a big piece of my heart; a time that consisted of a lot of growth, learning, and pain in my life, and I absolutely can’t wait to share. We are one together, always.”

In addition to the song dump, all three tracks—the riff-heavy “Born in Early May,” the considerably softer “Special,” and closer “Crick” which splits the difference—are collected together in an epic short film created by Harrison Shook. The 13 and a half minutes of surreal imagery further provide the tunes with a gothic energy reflective of the songs’ void-gazing lyricism.
