Although Get Better Records has significantly expanded its scope in recent years, dipping its toes in everything from hyperpop-fueled rap to entrancingly smooth electronica to British disco-punk, the Philly label remains a hotbed for exciting developments in queercore and other DIY punk offshoots. As such, on July 12 they’ll be releasing the newly announced EP from Baltimore hardcore-punks Doubt, who’ve also shared the scorching second single from that release today with the 94-second ripper “The Hard Way.” The fast-paced punk track pairs chaotic instrumentation with vocals from Claire Abila that border on heavy metal incantation.

Taking cues from the early-’10s West Coast thrashcore scene, the EP’s six tracks clock in at just under 10 minutes while maintaining a lyrical focus on politically induced rage. “Having something to channel all my passion into gives me a way to push myself creatively, interpersonally, and morally, and I always think that if I’m capable of succeeding with music, I’m capable of anything,” the group’s bassist Pocholo Itona shares. “If I’m able to be organized enough to perform and tour within DIY, there’s no reason I can’t organize politically and engage my community outside of DIY and punk.”
