Kim Gordon brought the noise to Union Transfer in Philadelphia on Friday night as she continues to tour her recent solo album, The Collective. Opener Bill Nace (who also performs with Gordon in Body/Head) kicked off the evening with a barrage of staccato feedback and decay, which didn’t come from a guitar but instead an unassuming taishōgoto (also known as the Nagoya harp). His performance was fairly disorienting, as his apocalyptic roar of noise didn’t match up to the lone figure onstage.

Gordon and company, however, looked the part as they let loose a volley of sound that the crowd was eager for. The setlist consisted of a lot of new material, including her Collective single “BYE BYE,” as well as a few tracks from 2019’s No Home Record. Usually a few stragglers hang back in the bar area during Union Transfer shows, but everyone hit the floor and the back room was completely abandoned, despite the fact that Gordon could be heard a few blocks away.
