Although Robber Robber pull from all the currently chic subgenres—post-punk, dream pop, even krautrock—each of the compositions they’ve released ahead of their forthcoming debut album feel more concerned with the tense emotions behind them than classifying the sounds themselves. Case in point, “Dial Tone,” the third single they’re sharing from Wild Guess, jumps back and forth between scuzzy yet tightly composed verses and a blast of guitars marking the chorus.

Meanwhile, the lyrics contemplate this era of constant social media surveillance and the complex feelings of FOMO that inexplicably still tend to hit you after a fulfilling night out. “It’s kind of a voyeuristic perspective of everyone scrambling around to see each other and connect, but also never feeling quite like you’re keeping pace with the slipstream,” shares vocalist/guitarist Nina Cates. “Feeling like you’re always going out and yet always missing out on something.”

Taking a more literal approach to “surveillance,” the track’s music video plays out like grainy CCTV footage on multiple monitors. Check that out below, and pre-save Wild Guess here before the record drops July 26.
