A few months ago, Melbourne-based duo Armlock announced their follow up to 2021’s Trust LP with the news that their sophomore record, Seashell Angel Lucky Charm, would arrive July 12 via their new label home of Run for Cover Records. The news came paired with a new single that leaned heavily into the prominent basslines and slowcore energy of Pinback before being swallowed whole in the track’s final minute by a guitar solo that devolves into screeching feedback.

With the album’s release slated for this Friday, the duo is sharing one last single in the form of “Fear,” a gentler take on slowcore convention that shares more in common musically with their peers Hovvdy and Alex G. As the name suggests, though, the lyrics address this disorienting period in history when no one else seems nearly as outwardly concerned about the state of things as we may be internally. “This song is about feeling overwhelmed by life’s expectations,” the band’s Simon Lam shares. “I’m scared of what lies ahead, but those around me don’t look so concerned, which worries me even more.”
