Aaron Maine’s sixth album under the Porches moniker is slated to arrive in September, with early singles “Itch,” “Joker,” and “Rag” hinting at the heavier direction these songs will take in contrast with the indietronica and slacker rock of the project’s prior decade of output. The elements of grunge and noise pop that give the forthcoming Shirt its edge also serve as points of contrast for the eerie calm heard on the rest of the tracklist, with “Joker” providing a blueprint for the folky direction Maine explores in the record’s softer corners.
But it’s mostly that heavier direction Maine leans into with the tracklist he assembled for his episode of FLOOD FM’s “Hacked,” which features songs from Fugazi, Descendents, Pantera, and Nirvana alongside an array of folk and pop represented by Arthur Russell and Charli XCX, respectively. You can hear the full episode all week when it airs at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 10 p.m. everyday from July 8 to July 12 only on FLOOD FM.
