Last month, Atlanta-based musicians Tyler-Simone Molton and John Renaud announced their debut album as the new wave duo Lesibu Grand with a kitschy Jetsons-themed video for lead single “Anarchy”—something of an homage to fellow Georgians The B-52’s and their sci-fi take on dance-y post-punk. With the second single, “Emotional Disguise,” the group is switching gears both instrumentally and tonally, with this new track exploring earnest indie-pop bordering on twee, defined by dreamy acoustic guitar and the harmonies abetting Molton’s gentle lead vocals.
Appropriately, the lyrics address the way we try out different emotional approaches to various situations to see what works best. “We wanted to champion the idea of exploring the full range of emotions in a lighthearted way while still remaining true to ourselves,” the band shares. “Sometimes we’re not exactly sure how we feel about another person, or a situation, and it may be useful to ‘try on’ different emotional states to see if they square up with our core values. Being honest is also important, of course, but real honesty requires self-exploration, and that’s what ‘Emotional Disguise’ is all about.”
The track’s video, which was directed by Molton, sees the band’s vocalist going about her day while expressing the range of emotions addressed above. Check that out below, and pre-order Triggered before it arrives August 16 via Kill Rock Stars here.
