LA-based Delaware-worshippers (and shoegaze innovators in their own right) Cryogeyser are back today in a modified form with their first new single since their crushing 2021 LP timetetheredtogether. Vocalist Shawn Marom welcomes drummer/producer Zach CapittiFenton and bassist Samson Klitsner to the lineup on “Sorry,” the band’s first self-produced recording since their 2019 debut album. Taking the grunge influence a dial or two further than their most recent output, “Sorry” maintains the dream-pop form perfected on their most recent release as Marom’s emotive vocals and reflective lyrics fuse with the heavy instrumental.
“‘Sorry’ is the song that plays at the pool party your ex is at,” Marom explains of the track which, yeah, could very well soundtrack a montage of earnest introspection in the midst of a Y2K teen movie. “The rage and discomfort become an internal war, asking yourself, ‘Did I do the best I could? Could I have done it differently?’ It’s a tongue-in-cheek homage to the intricacies of relationships and communication, especially in conflict. ‘Sorry’ reminds you to be yourself, forgive yourself, and embrace yourself. Welcome change but never change. It also touches on the expectations we put on others, ourselves, and our artistic practices. Wondering if the failure or rejection could ever be avoided. If we knew then what we know now, things would be much different than this.”
The track comes paired with a music video that splices the band’s performance of the track in front of the city skyline with scenes of Marom singing solo, conceivably at the aforementioned pool party. Check it out below, and save the single to playlists here.
