San Antonio’s Sunday Drive Records is among the lesser-sung heroes of the current post-hardcore/shoegaze crossover movement, with releases by artists like All Under Heaven, Mad Honey, and Leaving Time turning heads lately. Today they add to that list Prim, the Seattle rockers whose new album Move Too Slow will arrive September 6 via the label. Ahead of that date, they’re sharing two new singles: “Golden Tooth” and “Don’t Count on Me,” the former of which arrives with a music video filmed partly in what appears to be a classroom and partly in what is definitely Twin Peaks’s Black Lodge. Unclear if they were able to access it through that weird forest portal or if the Pacific Northwest is actually just full of these red-curtained/black-and-white patterned tile rooms.

“A golden tooth can be a sign of wealth or poverty, depending on the context,” the band’s vocalist Kevin Flores shares of the track, originally released in January in a more lo-fi, PNW quality. “The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, but we’re all still stuck on the same dying planet that the rich are actively destroying and blaming the poor for—so what will you do, fall into hopelessness or channel that anger into direct action?”

That anger comes through in the quartet’s blazing riffs and Flores’ angst-ridden vocals and lyrics, albeit smoothed out to fit the track’s hooky mold. Check out the video below, and pre-order Move Too Slow here.
