A little over a decade ago, John Klein began exploring the intersections of folk, bedroom pop, and ambient music that became the calling card for the Orchid Tapes label, a collective which additionally put out early recordings from the likes of Alex G and Soccer Mommy. After releasing an album and an EP as Euphoria Again, he put the project on hold before recently resurfacing with a second LP, Lifetime, in 2021—around the same time he also began playing with Philadelphian shoegazers Knifeplay. It appears as if Euphoria Again is back in full swing, as today he’s announcing his third LP, Waiting on Time to Fly, which he crafted with the assistance of Knifeplay bandmates Johanna Baumann and Max Black.
The first single, “Sky Remembers,” introduces a much more mature alt-Americana sound than the hazy hypnagogia of Euphoria Again’s early material, while the lyrics equally betray the record’s themes of personal development. The crisp, full-band sound backs Klein as he conveys the recognition of actions and consequences and the need to push forward, noting that “the sky remembers more than you might think.” “This is a song I wrote about moving on,” he shares, “a feeling, not so much a narrative. Here, the sky is a place that connects us to all—alive and gone, forgotten and remembered.”
