Many have been talking about how long it’s been since Adrianne Lenker released her album Bright Future back in March of 2024—which is, in fact, this very year. The streets have been abuzz. After the lengthy hiatus, the clearly not-that-prolific songwriter—who famously fronts a band that’s been known to tour a brand-new double album with setlists mostly made up of unreleased tracks—has returned with another cut from that session, the lovely “Once a Bunch.” Also, this stuff about her being not prolific is a joke! Between her solo music and Big Thief, we have endless bounties from Lenker Corp.
The track, which originally appeared on the Japanese CD release of Bright Future, is a lovely, campfire-ready, country-tinged folk jam with harmonies and plenty of acoustic guitar parts. I remember hearing this song at a 2023 (or 2022?) Big Thief concert because of a moment when Lenker sings the word “margarita” and [Borat voice] my wife and I looked at each other and said: “Yum.”
Lenker has tour dates coming up this fall, but they’re all sold out, so tough luck. Check out “Once a Bunch” below.
