We’re living in a golden age of freaked-out noise rock and insanely fun industrial electronic music, so naturally someone was bound to hit the perfect balance of the two. Seattle trio Anthers will be releasing their debut EP Pedigree Pig a month from next week, and the first single “Mabel” somehow recalls the stop-start no-wave meltdowns of Gilla Band and the shredded post-hardcore vocals of METZ (not to mention the snarl of David Yow) as much as it does the lurching dance music of Mandy, Indiana and Model/Actriz.

And there’s plenty of rationale for the bludgeoning wave of sound packed into the single’s four minutes, according to the band’s EJ Tolentino. “‘Mabel’ is about the overwhelming weight of human connection and the relationships one has with loved ones, strangers, and lovers,” the vocalist/guitarist shares of the track, whose heavy themes more than match the music they’re bellowed over. “The daunting necessity of having to cut ties or the unfathomable grieving at the loss of life. The dread of letting someone go and the solace of moving on.”

Check out a stream of the track below, and pre-order Pedigree Pig here ahead of its September 20 release.
