Much in the same way we wouldn’t have gotten The Breeders if it weren’t for certain Francis/Deal tensions, many of the most positive changes in our lives tend to come from an inability to maintain the status quo. In fact that’s a pretty apt analogy in the case of Naomi Davidoff, who left her old band Spooled Up behind in Baltimore after relocating to Philadelphia following a breakup. Yet the move resulted in the formation of a new band called Puddled, which, yeah, has more than a little of Breeders’ grunge-pop charm to their sound.

Today the group (which is split between Philly and B-more) is sharing a new single called “Between” which serves as the first single from their self-titled debut EP, landing September 26 via Spooled Up’s label Crafted Sounds. The new track takes Davidoff’s move as inspiration for its lyrics, unpacking the excitement of new possibilities in the wake of a tough transitional period. “I was living in an apartment in Baltimore after a formative relationship ended, and debating whether or not I should move to a new city,” the songwriter recalls. “A few months after this I decided to pull the trigger. It takes strength to really turn everything upside down, and sometimes it feels completely overwhelming. This song was written as a reminder that a new life doesn’t have to be that far away.”

You can hear “Between” below, and you can pre-order the new EP here. Additionally, the band’s upcoming tour dates can be found beneath the video.
