A little over a month ago, Tank and the Bangas announced their ambitious summer plans of releasing the triptych EP series The Heart, The Mind, The Soul, a trilogy of releases that would see the New Orleans–based neo-soul collective teaming up with three different producer on three different spoken-word projects over the course of the latter half of the summer. Following the James Poyser–produced The Heart and the Iman Omari–produced The Mind, today sees the release of the final installment with the Robert Glasper–produced The Soul (an apt title for anything Glasper-related). Now available as a unified whole, fans can still anticipate the October 11 release of the whole package along with a slew of bonus tracks (it’s yet to be confirmed which part of the human physique/spirit that will be named after).
In the meantime, as an added bonus, today we’re getting a music video for “Enjoy the Ride,” the second track from the first installment in the series. Trimmed down to under two minutes, the video presents vocalist Tarriona “Tank” Ball mid-transit in her native New Orleans, using the streetcar as a venue for rapping the song’s grievances and yearnings. “I’ve always loved the streetcar in New Orleans,” Ball shares. “Growing up I used to watch it in movies and see it go up and down Canal Street carrying people to their destinations. It’s such a dream to combine my music with the vehicle that makes this city home to me. It’s the perfect way to ‘enjoy the ride.’”
