With instant crush vocalist Megan Cannon hailing from Seattle, and her band specializing in recreating Y2K pop-punk, it feels perfectly natural that the group is announcing their debut album with an homage to the 1999 romcom 10 Things I Hate About You. I’M SORRY I DIDN’T BITE MY TONGUE will arrive October 25 via the nonprofit label Share It Music, and the lead single “Apology Tour” is an instant earworm recreating the sounds of early ’00s radio alt-rock for Gen Z’s considerably less overly dramatic revisionist history of that era. “Drawing inspiration from acts such as Bloc Party, The Killers, and Paramore, this album has something for everyone,” Cannon assures listeners.

What does that have to do with Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, you might ask? Well, the new track’s single arrives with a video filmed at Stadium High School in Tacoma, the shooting location for the PNW-set 10 Things. Naturally, the band paired that imagery with a song that would sync perfectly with a late-’90s high school Shakespeare adaptation. “10 Things I Hate About You was the most lighthearted and relatable movie I watched growing up,” Cannon shares. “It’s the perfect coming-of-age film, and being from Seattle we wanted to honor our roots in a way that felt real and genuine to us by paying homage to our youth.”
