It’s almost always funny when idiots get rich by scheming. Remember when Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne accidentally stole a briefcase full of cash? Well, replace Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels with Zach Galifianakis and Kristen Wiig, add criminal intent, and you’ve got Masterminds.
In the new trailer for the upcoming film (directed by Napoleon Dynamite‘s creator Jared Hess), Galifianakis and Wiig star as armored car guards who go rogue to the tune of $17 million at Owen Wilson‘s prompting. Things start to go south (obviously) and that’s when Jason Sudeikis makes his appearance as a “suave” hitman.

Written by a team of five writers including Jody Hill and Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), Masterminds is based on the true story of the 1997 Loomis Fargo Robbery in North Carolina. While it doesn’t have the Oscars biopic vibe to it, we’re confident that the film will at least be better than Dumb and Dumber To.
