Now that we’re past that disorienting era of COVID-induced quarantine where every year impossibly feels both like a week and a century at the exact same time, the only way to achieve this astrophysical phenomenon is to begin a new relationship—to lie in bed for what could equally likely feel like five hours or five minutes. This is the subject of Chicago native Kristyn Chapman’s debut single as Morpho, “Prism.” Looking back on this sensation from the rearview of a relationship, the blissful indie-pop track sounds more inquisitive than yearning.
“It’s about being in love, feeling totally present in the moment with someone else,” Chapman confirms of the track, which itself feels prismatic—especially as it expands in scope in its back half. “Time feels suspended, like you’re living in a dream. I wrote this song in retrospect, trying to capture that expansive feeling after the relationship had ended.”
The track arrives with a video directed by Robert Salazar, as well as a short set of Midwestern tour dates beginning and ending in Chicago (the latter being an EP release show with Rat Tally scheduled for December 12). Check out the video below, and find those upcoming dates here.
