After tapping Laura Stevenson and Nada Surf’s Matthew Caws on their last LP, and teaming up with Alexa Rose for a handful of tracks on the EP that arrived on its heels, Matt Pond PA is continuing their collaborative streak with their newly revealed 2025 LP Winged Horse. Erin Rae, Humbird, and Anya Marina will all appear on the forthcoming record’s guest list, in addition to the lead single “Those Wings” featuring backing vocals from The Head and the Heart’s Jonathan Russell. “I could hear his voice in it,” bandleader and namesake Matt Pond shares of his instinct to get Russell involved.

“Those Wings” sets the scene for Winged Horse both musically and thematically, with the track coming together immediately after Pond endured the perils of living in New York’s famously dangerous Hudson Valley—namely staying focused on driving with so much breathtaking nature to behold. “One problem with living in the Catskills is that it’s impossible to keep your eyes on the road,” he explains. “Around every turn, there’s a mountain or a river or a bear that needs beholding. You have to love the danger.”

The yearning folk-rock track also addresses the ever-present danger of falling in love—whether it be with your surroundings or those who inhabit them with you. Check out the video for “Those Wings” below, and anticipate more news regarding Winged Horse ahead of its January 17 release.
