After introducing their grungy punk sound two and a half years ago with their self-titled debut, Savannah-based trio Basically Nancy returned last month with a three-song collection called Wounds which was both an expansion upon the snarling riffs of their debut and, tragically, one of the final recordings captured and punched up by the late Steve Albini. The EP’s closing track and namesake stands out with its clanging lead guitar, blues-dirge spirit, minimalist-yet-still-aggressive climax, and cathartic lyrics. “‘Wounds’ is a ballad of someone’s mental illness rubbing off on you after being around them too much,” the band explains. “It tells the story of what it’s like to be stuck in a vicious cycle for so long and the relief of the release.”

Today, the group is revealing a music video for the track aptly filmed in gothic-tinted black-and-white, as it calls back to some of the dramatic visuals released by the ’90s alt-rock projects Basically Nancy take musical cues from. You can check that out below, and stream the full Wounds EP—out now via Graveface—here.
