British post-punk quintet IDLES are in the midst of an expansive world tour in support of their fifth album, TANGK, while indie-rock greats The Walkmen are winding down their run of shows after a decade-long hiatus. This past Friday night at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York, their worlds collided as they each delivered riveting performances, with IDLES bringing non-stop energy throughout their 24-song, two-hour show.
The pairing brought special significance, as IDLES frontman Joe Talbot told the crowd that during his days of drinking, drugging, and fighting, his friend gave him a copy of The Walkmen’s 2004 classic Bow + Arrows and it changed his life—and how honored he was to be sharing a stage with them. Meanwhile, during The Walkmen’s set, singer Hamilton Leithauser revealed that this show—and their upcoming date with Interpol at The Forum in LA in November—will be the band’s last “for the foreseeable future.”
