Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve featured live shots of electrifying performances by Justice at Portola and Life Is Beautiful, but nothing could have prepared us for the majesty that unfolded at the Hollywood Bowl last night. Playing their biggest stand-alone headlining show ever in the US to nearly 18,000 fans, the legendary French electronic duo took us on a wild journey spanning their career, from set opener “Genesis” (significantly the first track on their debut album Cross) to their 2016 hit “Safe and Sound” to their recent Tame Impala collab “Neverender.” And, of course, the place went nuts for their breakout single “D.A.N.C.E,” which re-appeared in multiple forms during the setlist.
With a dynamic set design said to have been developed in part with a team of “seven computer scientists,” the stage evolved throughout the set, propelled by a massive swirling display of lights on trusses moving up, down, and sideways. It’s an out-of-this-world sensory experience to behold.
Local hero Thundercat opened the evening, and also joined the duo to perform the show’s closer—naturally, their Hyperdrama collab “The End.” Check out highlights of the night shot by Brandon Densley, and revisit our recent conversation with Justice’s Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay here.
