Over the summer, Leeds duo lots of hands shared their Alex-G-doing-slowcore single “rosie” as a way of celebrating their signing to Fire Talk Records. Now, we’re learning that that song will appear along with re-recorded versions of their 2023 singles “the rain” and “into a pretty room” on their 14-track label debut named after the latter song, which will arrive on January 15. “We are so stoked to finally release the album—especially with Fire Talk, who’ve been super helpful and supportive with the release,” shares the band’s Elliot Dryden. “It's the first album me and [bandmate Billy Woodhouse] have truly collaborated 50/50 [on], and was so much fun to make. It feels like a token of our friendship, which is what makes this album and our future releases so special to us.”
Along with this latest development, Dryden and Woodhouse are also sharing the project’s latest single “game of zeroes.” Dropping the vocoder of “rosie” and picking up the pace, the still-gloomy folk single sounds like an alternate-dimension Elliott Smith leaning into the jammier proclivities of his later work. “‘game of zeroes’ is about feeling like you have no luck and are set up to fail—a feeling which most teenagers would have at the age of 18 (which is when I wrote it) [when] getting fired from numerous jobs and trying to find my way around adult life,” shares Dryden. “I'm glad to be out of that headspace now and can look back at that point in life without any grievances.”
