Elsa y Elmar’s new album PALACIO is a sister album of sorts to its 2022 predecessor, ya no somos los mismos. Where the latter Latin-pop collection chronicled its creator’s ill-fated relationship, a health scare, and other anxieties, its follow-up takes the form of a deep exhale. Inspired by some much-needed alone time traveling Europe, PALACIO feels like another series of diary entries that dig deeper than the surface pains explored on ya no somos, with the Colombian songwriter coming out the other end more in tune with herself than ever before.
With the writing process for both records seemingly equally laborious, we caught up with Elsa at her home in Mexico City to have her document a peaceful day (well, barring a few interviews) at home in between touring the new album across Mexico, the US, Spain, and Colombia over the coming months. Check out her walkthrough of a perfect day in the Mexican capital below.
I usually wake up at 8 or 8:30 in the morning and go to my terrace to enjoy a bit of sunshine. I have this weird breed of four-leaf clovers (although I learned this is not technically a clover). Found this one today. Behind me are my lantana plants, which are my favorite plants in the world.
I usually have slow mornings but today I had a bunch of interviews with Spain, so it needed to be early. Also had a couple meetings and got ready to take a walk and have lunch with a friend.
Saw this cute storefront in my neighborhood. I wonder who this woman is, haha. I get so inspired and moved by Mexican storefronts.
Yes, I had an awesome picaña taco for lunch. Actually I had three. I know a taco without salsa is something almost unheard of but...I love Mexican food but don’t love spicy food. So it’s not a challenge, but it’s definitely a journey.
After lunch I kept walking. I usually take long walks. Today was like an hour. I found this place with miniatures that I love so much! Have them everywhere around my house.
This is me walking, haha.
I’m into braids these days, so I went to a wig store to get a thick braid that I wanna use for my next shows. I usually take walks and find whatever I need around Insurgentes.
Stopped by the market to get some fresh papaya and flowers. I like to get fresh flowers for my place.
These are the flowers I got for this week. They’re PALACIO inspired. “Palacio” is the name for my new album, and this arrangement kind of felt right. It’s a beautiful and perfectly balanced mess—just like my album.
10. This is me and Paca. I love to watch the free internet channels on my TV because I find weird and weirdly translated documentaries that I enjoy watching.
