Founded in the fertile crescent of freak-rock—Denton, Texas—the currently Brooklyn-based duo Venus Twins are the unlikely link between the ’00s sasscore movement that brought us bands like The Locust and the newly reunited Blood Brothers (whom Venus Twins opened for last night) and the recent trend of projects like Frost Children and The Garden that coast on the eeriness of their two sibling members’ seemingly telepathic connections. Following their 2022 noise-rock debut record Raxis, Jake and Matt Derting returned at the top of October in characteristically chaotic fashion with the blistering noise of “I Just Can’t Get Enough!”—the lead single from their forthcoming EP /\/\/\/\/ (pronounced “stitching,” not “Homer Simpson’s hair” or “Charlie Brown’s shirt”), which will serve as their first release for ex-Locust bandleader Justin Pearson’s Three One G Records.

Again leaning into the twin secret sauces that make their project so unique—ear-shattering noise and “twin telepathy”—the EP’s second single and pseudo title track “Stitching” amps up the stress level with pummeling peaks and a few brief dips into total silence. According to the band, the track’s origins stem from Matt’s past struggles with finding a balance between his romantic life and the band. “This song is also about the attempts to mend the problems in our life,” Matt shares. “We also highlight the negative effects that uncompromising decisions have on relationships and your own well-being—whether that’s lyrically or sonically. The back-and-forth form in this song serves the idea of things spiraling out of control, when too much is on the line on all fronts. This track gives insight on being the stressed-out individuals we were at the time of writing/recording this track.”

Feel free to partake of the pitch-perfect stress below, and expect the full /\/\/\/\/ EP to arrive November 8 via Three One G.
