Earlier this month, Sarah Walk released her new album under the Breymer moniker When I Get Through, which takes the form of an honest and heartfelt conversation about gender identity set to equally heartfelt instrumentation. The record kicks off with the “The Truth,” a vignette set in a bar wherein the artist recalls a chat that served as a crucial moment in her journey. “It was the first conversation I’d ever had (outside of my partner) where I voiced my considerations of top surgery to someone else,” she recalls. “I was pushing myself to speak on something I hadn’t yet come to terms with internally, and until the words lived outside of myself, I hadn’t yet known what I was hoping to receive.”
Following Walk’s hometown release show in Minneapolis over the weekend, which served to raise funds for the local reproductive and sexual health clinic Family Tree Clinic, Breymer is sharing a “Neighborhoods” performance of the tune outside her home in Los Angeles. “This is shot right outside my newly converted studio space in my backyard,” she shares of the video, in which she’s joined by her collaborator R.J. on the cut. “It felt right to shoot it here—a peaceful place where I often take breaks to think, find inspiration, and reflect.” Check out the performance below.
