Stella Rose Gahan burst onto the industrial synthpop scene in late 2022 under the Stella Rose moniker, making quick work of a debut album that would arrive midway through last year. At the end of October she returned with a new Abel Ferrara–referencing single that would appear on a brand new EP titled Hollybaby, which is scheduled for release on December 13 via KRO Records. Now, she’s back with the ominous title track that pairs a minimal yet hard-hitting beat and dissonant guitar riffs with Stella Rose’s cryptic lyricism. “The best kept secret between the bars,” she shares of the new single, equally cryptically. “People that you’ve been before, fueling superstitions. The sedation in seduction, the day the music died.”
The track kicks off the new collection, leading into the previously released “Ms. 45” and two additional tracks that have yet to surface. “Like any piece of work, I’d hope that there’s something listeners can find in the music that resonates with their own experience,” she adds, addressing the EP as a whole. “There can be a sense of isolation in these well-defined worlds we create as human beings. Beauty in all the madness—these themes feel ever present in this EP.”
