Horsegirl rules because the trio of Nora Cheng, Penelope Lowenstein, and Gigi Reece work together in a professional capacity and are still best friends. That shit is rare and should not be trifled with. As such, I gather us here today to celebrate the NYC-via-Chicago band’s return. Their sophomore album Phonetics on and On is set to arrive on February 14 via Matador Records. The newly unveiled first single “2468”—and the album as a whole—was produced by Cate Le Bon and recorded at The Loft in Chicago.
“2468,” which also happens to be the year I will conquer Jupiter, is a delightful and scrappy alt-rock track that shuffles along with violin, guitar, and drums. Come for the playful mess-around with rhythmic dynamics, stay for the perfectly enunciated vocal performances from the band.
