Barely a year after releasing their impressive debut album When Horses Would Run last summer, Austin surf-punks Being Dead returned at the end of September to double down on that vision while amping up the more psychedelic and aggressively post-punk elements of their sound with EELS. It wasn’t long after their hometown release show that they began touring these playful tunes across North America, with their “EELS on Wheels” tour running from mid-October to the beginning of November, with support from Omni, Villagerrr, Dari Bay, Golden Apples, and Sex Week on various dates.
Before the band heads back out on the road in February with a set of dates planned for the UK and Europe, Falcon Bitch and Shmoofy (their legal names, certainly) along with bassist Nicole Roman-Johnston are recapping their time in the States with a tour diary quite literally about the friends they made along the way (as well as some of the more established ones who lent them somewhat-functional air mattresses). Check out the pics by Tricia “Treat” Torley below, along with commentary from the band.
Grabbing an air mattress from our good friend Caroline’s parents’ house. Falcon woke up on the ground due to it slowly leaking the whole night.
Falcon with her cute parents in Delaware.
Bonkers green room rooftop at Brooklyn Made with our bud Tim from the excellent band Blood.
Secret handshake with gold and silver necklace exchange on Brooklyn Made rooftop.
Our little Yankee. They lost the World Series days after this picture was taken. The light was taken from her hopeful eyes.
The NYC crowd was so much fun, y’all. Bless. Happy to see so many friends and family.
Our good, dear friends Libby and Stephen Svacina in Philly.
Pack masters. Look at all this cool stuff you can steal from our 2013 Black Chevy Express while we’re on the road.
Nicole’s dad Mac hosted a dumpling-making party in Connecticut! Here he is pictured threatening Nicole with a sharp knife after some nasty words were exchanged.
We turned the camera on Treat to capture her delicious creation. Looks like a little potato, wouldn’t you say?
Skipping down the Toronto streets with our partial tour mates the Dari Boys of Dari Bay.
Babies’ first Niagara Falls. Not impressed.
We’re a big crocheting family. This is the beginning of a very disappointing hat.
Kalamazoo was wild. They know how to throw down, except for two stone-faced girls front row who did not seem to have any fun. What can you do??
Someone got horses from our first album tattooed!
Playing pinball with our newfound buddies in Villagerrr.
Jumping high in Kentucky. Not pictured is the stench of meat street, Louisville.
Pool guy in Louisville.
Our partners joined us for the last leg of the tour!
Halloween in Nashville at Blue Room with our guys Omni couldn’t have been better.
Hope to see you next time!
