Chicago’s Footballhead not only released their debut full-length collection of grunge-tinged pop-punk earlier this year with Overthinking Everything, but even followed it up five months later with an additional seven-track EP. On top of that, they’re already in the process of penning their follow-up record, which is planned for release some time next year, though before they close out their monumental 2024 they’ll be headlining a small set of East Coast/Midwest dates alongside New Age Thief, in addition to opening for Taking Back Sunday and Sweet Pill this weekend in New Jersey.
With that tour kicking off today in Detroit, the band is giving us a taste of their next chapter with a standalone single called “Sliver.” Produced by Snow Ellet, the track recalls the deceptively deep-cutting pop punk of Chastity while bringing to mind the mid-’10s ’gazey melodic post-hardcore movement led by bands like Basement. “The production on ‘Sliver’ is for sure our best yet,” shares the band’s Ryan Nolen. “Snow crushed it on this one and nailed that energy of floating, being trapped, and having to live with all you’ve done. The bridge dials it back and conveys [that] we know how to be melodic and slow it down, too. It’s also the moment of realization in the song. Stoked on how this one turned out.”
