Fatboi Sharif is my favorite rap dude because he’s never not working, and he’s never doing the same thing twice. It’s miraculous. Brain Candy, his full-length collaboration with Fat Tony and Steel Tipped Dove, arrived back in September. Now? He‘s back with a wonderfully fucked up new track, “Malik,” made with Jersey City producer DRIVEBY.

The single finds Sharif embracing the tenets of haunted industrial metal, chanting and grunting over distorted bass pads and gnarling whispers. Probably not a great track to cue up before bed, but invigorating during sunny hours. And by “invigorating” I mean it’s on par with huffing a ton of smelling salts, jumping in a 40 degree pool, or dousing your eyeballs with those health shots you can take that are made up of ginger and cayenne pepper. “A chaotic muffled war cry thru the spirit of pain channeling inner strength on the other side of redemption,” Sharif shares of the track. Totally. DRIVEBY adds: “A parental guide for lost souls in a cyberpunk society.” Noted.

Check out “Malik” below, and make sure to visit the track’s Bandcamp page here to get a look at Sharif’s lyrics.
