Here at FLOOD HQ, we’re big fans of Lapgan. The Chicago-based producer was the chief sonic architect (CSA) behind Heems’ LAFANDAR, one of my favorite rap records of the year. That’s one helluva reason to celebrate—and celebrate Lapgan did. The producer has unveiled the History the Remix EP, which offers up some of his favorite artists reworking tracks from his 2023 LP, History. Those favorite artists include: Sid Vashi, EXCISE DEPT, Kartik, bg___________, and Spectacular Diagnostics.
“This past year for me was all about building out community in music,” Lapgan shares. “All the EP remixers are collaborators and friends from around the world, from my fellow Chicago producers Spectacular Diagnostics and bg___________ all the way to Sid Vashi in Australia, and Kartik Sudhera and EXCISE DEPT in India. It was a major honor to have EXCISE DEPT do the remix for ‘The Illest Raja’—their genre-bending album SAB KUCH MIL GAYA MUJHE VOL 1 was a favorite of mine this year. What they did with the song was incredible.”
