As we reported back in October, Panda Bear will be following up his slew of collaborations with Sonic Boom in February with Sinister Grift, the Animal Collective co-founder’s first solo record since 2019’s Buoys. Yet the project will be a solo record only in name—the album’s lead single was a duet with Cindy Lee, while Grift also marks the first time that all three of Noah Lennox’s AnCo bandmates are featured on one of his releases. “Working on this record felt like a sacred and warm return,” shared co-producer Josh Dibb, a.k.a. Deakin. “Noah and I first started putting music down to multitrack cassette in 1991. 32 years later and working in the same fashion, two friends alone in a room searching for sounds and feelings that move us, I am very proud of what we created together.”
Before the record drops at the end of next month, we’re getting another taste of Sinister Grift with the mid-album track “Ferry Lady,” a hazy, upbeat number that could only come from camp PB. Check it out below, and expect Sinister Grift out February 28 via Domino.
