Nearly five years since releasing their self-titled debut EP, Australia’s Olivia’s World have announced today that their first full-length, Greedy & gorgeous, will be released on March 14. The band’s signature balance of sardonic Aussie slacker-rock a la Courtney Barnett and invigorated punk comes to a head on the project’s lead single “Sourgum,” a driving, grungy tune culminating in wailing sax and otherwise utilizing the band’s new lineup. “I hadn’t picked up the guitar in a while, and it was written in the space of 30 minutes,” vocalist Alice Rezende shares of the first track written for the release. “It was also the first song we wrote under the new Olivia’s World lineup. As we had a new and very powerful drummer, it became a pretty potent live song.”

According to Rezende, the nine songs on Greedy & gorgeous make up something of a concept album exploring frustration, boredom, heartbreak, “fleshy desire,” and “longing and lingering in a la-la land of altered states.” Written over the past couple of years, many of the album’s tracks came together in the margins of paperwork at her day job as a gallery investigator, where she had “many, many solitary hours to ponder in front of contemporary masterpieces.”
