Widely recognized for his prominent acting roles on Stranger Things and Fargo, Joe Keery’s musical project Djo has also flourished over the last couple of years. We profiled the multi-hyphenate performer for a FLOOD cover story back in 2022 upon the release of his second solo album DECIDE, with that album’s track “End of Beginning” becoming an unexpected viral hit the following year.

Keery is building on that momentum with news today of his third Djo album, The Crux, along with the release of the LP’s first single “Basic Being Basic.” Propelled by Oberheim OB-X8 synths and Keery’s catchy falsetto chorus, the track recalls everything from ’80s new wavers The Nails to The Strokes. “It’s kind of a shot fired to anyone who’s trying to be of-the-moment,” Keery shared of the track.

Along with the album announcement, Keery also revealed plans for a global tour, as well as an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 28, where he’ll also be a couch guest. Watch the video for “Basic Being Basic” below and check out his tour dates here. You can also pre-order The Crux (which is set to arrive April 4 via AWAL) here.
