After announcing some shows, dropping a song, and performing on Fallon together, Julien Baker and TORRES have officially confirmed that they’ll be releasing a collaborative album. Send a Prayer My Way will be released on April 18 via Matador Records. New single “Sylvia” is a nice folk tune, all stomp-clap harmonies without the corniness that’s permeated the vague world of Americana over the past 15 years. Instead of handclaps we get sharp snares, while the melodies are mournful and meditative. This is the good shit.
According to a press release, the album was initially conceived back in 2016 when the songwriters first shared a stage: “at the end [of the show] one singer turned to the other and said, ‘You know, we should make a country album.’” I wonder whose idea it was.
