A lot happened at the FireAid benefit concerts at the Kia Forum and Intuit Dome in Los Angeles last night, as a staggering array of superstars past and present performed to raise funds for LA fire relief. But nothing was more stunning than the late-night moment when seemingly out of nowhere, with no introduction, following Katy Perry’s set on the live stream from Intuit Dome, the surviving members of Nirvana crashed the stage at The Forum with St. Vincent on vocals to blaze through “Breed.” It was the first time Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear shared a stage together since 2014’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

As with that induction set that also included St. Vincent, their four-song surprise performance last night again featured two other icons—Kim Gordon (who sang on “School”) and Joan Jett (who took on “Territorial Pissings”)—though this time they closed with Grohl’s daughter Violet handling vocals for “All Apologies.”

You can watch their set from last night (at the 3:44 mark) below, and visit FireAidLA.org to donate or shop merch for LA fire relief.
